Valentine Edition!

I am linking up with Mamarazzi for today's We Want to Know!

{1} How was your Valentine's Day?
I honestly think it's one of the loveliest I've ever had!

I always spend the month before Valentine's Day fighting it.  I say I don't buy into this holiday and I don't need anything from my husband to prove his love for me.  Then the 14th hits and I get all mushy and sappy.  On that day, I realize that I truly do need something!  Several years, Hubby has listened to my rants and has done literally nothing.  Sometimes he says that he'll take me out shopping.  He doesn't get that I don't need something expensive, just something to show that he tried

This year, he got me a Cadbury Egg, my most favorite thing in all the world.  Sure, it cost under a dollar, but it showed that he took my likes into consideration.  He also got me a hilarious card that said:
Honey, I hope you know that all of your hard work has not gone unnoticed.
I've been watching you from the couch during commercials.

I literally laughed out loud because that is so true!  See, he knows me after all!

I made him a steak dinner (yeah it was huge), un-iced sugar cookies (he's weird like that), chocolate covered strawberries, and pretzel chocolates.  I don't have a job, people!  I must create in order to give gifts!!!

{2} What is your favorite flower? Did your honey get them for you?
I just love flowers and don't have a specific favorite.  Gerbera daisies rank up there, along with hydrangeas, tulips, and gardenias.  As stated above, I strongly oppose paying over $50 for a dozen roses.  The $.70 Cadbury Egg was just fine with me.

{3} Was Valentine's Day a big deal when you were a kid?
When I was a kid, it was all about the Valentine box!  My mom and I spent the night before the school party hunting for a shoe box and red construction paper.  We cut out hearts, glued and glittered, and cut a slot in the top for my friends to drop my Valentines in.  Today, my kids simply color on a paper bag at school.  Nothing pretty, nothing fancy.  The slot in the top doesn't work any more because the kids get as many treats as they do cards.  I liked it our way better.

{4} Did you put up any Valentine's Day decorations? (bonus points for a picture)
Girl, no!  I barely put up Christmas decorations this year!  I am so not into decorating for holidays.  It's way too much work for this overstressed mama.  When I am wealthy and famous, I will pay someone to do this to my house:

{5} Do you have any Valentine's Day traditions?
No, unless you count not going out as a tradition.  We went out one time when V-Day was on a Saturday and I vowed never to do it again.  I really did not enjoy it.  Hubby actually offered to take me to Chipotle last night (which I would totally prefer over an expensive, ritzy restaurant where we would drop a couple Benjamins), but I said I would rather stay in and cook.  Waiting for him to get home, shower and shave, and drive to a restaurant, it would have been 8:00.  No thanks.

That's why I said my V-Day was perfect.  I fed the kids early so that Hubby and I could enjoy steak, parmesan potatoes, and freshly baked bread alone.  Well, Baby Girl intermittently climbed over him and did a lot of talking.  But still, it was lovely.

I like uniced sugar cookies too. No one else in the house does though, so I don't make them often.

Your plan of a (huge) steak, cookies AND choco-dipped strawberries sounds awesome to me!! And how sweet of your hubs to get you your favorite candy (even if it's Easter candy)!

Wouldn't it be great to have someone decorate our house for the holidays for us? We girls can hope!

I totally understand you on the decorating. I'd love to make my house look pretty, but it just takes so much time. And as for restaurants, I just can't seem to bring myself to wait however long the wait would be for a table at a crowded, noisy (because they all are on Valentine's day) restaurant. And thank you for the great recipes!
